Serve Team Coordinator
01 Role Identity
Title
Serve Team Coordinator
Reports To
Executive Pastor
Ministry Area
Serve — Serve Team (volunteer ministry)
Employment Type
[Full-Time / Part-Time — to confirm]
Why this role exists: To steward the volunteers who are the heartbeat of a Sunday — helping people find their place, discover their gifts, and be cared for while they serve.
“to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” — Ephesians 4:12 (NIV)
This role equips people for works of service — the building up of the body.
02 The Heart of This Role
This role exists so that people who want to serve can find their place, discover their gifts, and be cared for while they use them. You mobilize the volunteers who are the heartbeat of a Sunday — and you pastor them, so serving forms them rather than drains them.
03 What You’ll Steward
Ownership at NorthRock is framed as stewardship — you carry these, you don’t merely execute them.
Volunteer Recruiting & Onboarding — You steward the invitation to serve — helping people discover their gifts, and onboarding them so they feel prepared and confident.
The Care of the Serving Community — You steward the wellbeing of volunteers — celebrating them, connecting them, and offering spiritual support so they feel known, not used.
Scheduling & Placement — You steward the systems and schedules that place volunteers well and keep Sundays and events faithfully staffed.
A Culture of Generous Service — You steward an environment where serving is connected to formation and eternal impact, never framed as pressure.
04 What Success Looks Like
Measured by transformation and health, not slots filled — the direction we steward toward, not outcomes any one person can guarantee.
Volunteers who feel known — people cared for and connected, not merely scheduled.
People serving in their gifting — volunteers placed where they can thrive.
Sundays faithfully staffed — teams in place with excellence, week after week.
Serving that forms people — volunteers growing spiritually through service.
Belonging before belief. Formation over participation.
05 Who You Are
These attributes describe a life, not just a skill set.
Relational — you make people feel seen, valued, and equipped to serve.
Generous — you model selfless service and inspire others toward it.
A culture carrier — the joy and gratitude of the serving culture rises from the tone you help set.
Patient with process — you build the systems and schedules that keep serving sustainable.
Spiritually anchored — you shepherd volunteers, not just schedule them.
Role-specific gifting: strong relational leadership, organizational skill for scheduling and systems, and a genuine heart to shepherd volunteers.
06 How This Role Relates
Structures serve people. This clarity creates health, not gatekeeping.
Reports to: Executive Pastor — you help mobilize and care for the church’s serving teams.
Stewards: Serve Team volunteers — you lead, schedule, and pastor the serving community.
Decision pathway: You own volunteer coordination and care; ministry-specific direction is set with each ministry’s leaders. When clarity is needed, you have direct relational access — structure never blocks communication.
07 Rhythm & Wellness
The Heart pillar — because staff are part of the mission, not a means to it.
The rhythm: Sundays are the anchor, with weekday preparation and occasional evenings or special events. Sunday-morning availability is essential.
The honest word: This is meaningful work that asks for your whole heart — and NorthRock is committed to stewarding your health, your family rhythms, and your growth in return. Burnout is not celebrated here.
We move at the speed of trust. Sustainability before speed.
08 Formation & Growth
The Growth pillar — you’ll be invested in, not just deployed.
Regular shepherding and development from the Executive Pastor.
Clarity on your gifting and growth through the Heart / Calling / Growth rhythm and the 90-Day Review.
Real investment in your leadership over time.
Healthy people build healthy ministry.
